James Hickey

James Hickey,
LCSW – Chief Clinical Officer

James Hickey, LCSW brings nearly 20 years of experience helping clients overcome anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship issues. He holds a Master’s in Clinical Social Work from New York University and a Bachelor’s degree from Fairfield University, and is licensed to practice in NY, NJ, and MA and a member of the NASW.

James has spent his career combining clinical excellence with leadership and innovation in mental health care. He previously served as Clinical Director of Comprehensive Counseling, one of New York’s largest community-based psychotherapy practices, where he led a multidisciplinary team and expanded access to affordable care for thousands of New Yorkers. He later served as Chief Clinical Officer at LearnWell, the nation’s leading educational organization for mental health settings, driving strategic initiatives to improve care delivery at scale.

Now, through The Couch Psychotherapy, James serves as CCO, working to ensure that more New Jerseyans have access to the mental health support they deserve. His mission remains what it has always been; helping people overcome challenges, build resilience, and unlock their full potential.

James brings a distinctive perspective to his work as a former collegiate athlete, U.S. Peace Corps volunteer, and bilingual clinician fluent in English and Spanish.
